PRINCIPLES OF MANUAL HANDLING

A half-day course that can be run at a time and location to suit the client.

Principles of Manual Handling is a level 1 health & safety qualification which compliments the CIEH Basic Health & Safety Qualification, it is a stand alone qualification.

This course is aimed at all those people who carry out manual handling during the course of their work. It introduces delegates to the hazards associated with manual handling, the risks involved, the controls available and the outcome of manual handling assessment.
The course is not intended to equip students to carry out manual handling assessments nor to provide detailed training on handling techniques.

Topics covered include:-
The process of manual handling in the workplaceManual handling injuries and the activities that cause themManual handling assessment and control optionsResponsibilities imposed by the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992.

By the end of the course delegates will be able to:- Explain what is meant by the term 'manual handling' & give examples.Explain how manual handling can cause injury & give examples.State the principles for controlling manual handling risks and apply these in a practical context.Demonstrate general understanding of the value & purposes of conducting a manual handling assessment and what employees can expect from such assessmentsDemonstrate an understanding of the main provisions of the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992.

At the end of the course candidates will sit a short test comprising 20 questions. Those gaining the required pass mark will be awarded
the CIEH 'Principles of Manual Handling' Certificate.
