The Government intends to publish new guidance which will require every school to appoint an Educational Visits Coordinator (EVC). The EVC would be a senior member of staff, possibly the Head, and there would be a requirement to liaise with local authorities and ensure that activity leaders were properly trained.
NESTS have extensive experience providing safety training for teaching staff. Our Risk Assessment for Educational Visits course brings together present Government guidance on the subject and specialist training in the principles of risk assessment.
The aim of this course is to provide teaching staff, or the nominated Educational Visits Coordinator, with the required level of competence to ensure that all educational visits are undertaken with due regard to the assessment of risk and so ensure the safety of the children under their care.
This course provides detailed instruction on how to prepare an educational visit as well as understanding the importance of providing suitable and sufficient risk assessments in order that all reasonable and practicable steps are taken to eliminate or to reduce the risk.
The course programme consists of four sections: The Legal Framework.The Organisation of Safe Educational Visits.The Principles of Risk Assessment.Practical Application.
The course duration is approximately six hours and will include instruction on the above topics, a video and syndicate exercises.
